The trip to the newseum

I went to newseum this monday and it made me missed 3 tests... Luckily, i got all of them done.
Three things about the freedom of america!

The freedom of assmbly, the freedom of speech, the freedom of religion
Let's talk about the different between here and China.
First, the freedom of assmbly
In China, we always give a lot of good words for strike in my History lesson
But when it really happen, It's not like that.
In China we don't always against our government
one is we are living a happy life, the other is something will happen after that
Second, the freedom of religion
In China, no one force you to believe something and in 1950s you'd better not have religion
But now it's much better, there are many people who have religion in China
including my dad
Third, the freedom of  speech
In China, any words against the government and the country is not allowed in speechs
You can talk about everything you want but may not be about the government.Even if movies, if you say something bad about government in a movie, you may have trouble.
So, don't against the government and the president, you will be safe.

maps shift from simply a tool that provides location reference to a tool used by geographers to communcate complex geographic phenomena.

scientific method pf transfering locations on earth's surface to a flat map is called projection.

Earth's spherical shape causes distortion when drawing it on a flat piece of paper

Four types of distortion

distance between points may become increase or decrease

Geographic grid is a system of imaginary arcs drawn in a grid pattern on earth's surface.

Meridians are arcs drawn between the north and south poles each is numbered, according to a system known as longitude

parallels are arcs drawn parallel to the equator and at right angles to meridianns, each is numbered, accroding to a system known as latitude values range from 0 to 90 north or south

Further accuracy can be achieved by diving each degree into 60 minutes and each minute into 60 seconds

Earth as a sphere is divided into 360 of longitude.

divide 360 by 24 time zones (one for each hour of a day) equals 15

Greenwich at drime meridian (0 longitude)

Passes through Royal observatory at Greenwich, England

Master reference time for all points on earth

Wrong????

This Friday we watch a TV show about the map. It told us a thing that the map we are used to using is wrong. Why did he say so? The Iceland on the map is maybe 3 times smaller than Africa but in fact the Iceland is 40 times smaller than Africa. So the world should be different, then we have a peter’s map. It just looks like pull the lands longer than before and make it looks strange. That should be what the whole world truly look like. What? So everyone is keep telling me a lie during my whole life? That may be like Socrates in the world which he lived in. Maybe that’s the truth but everyone is familiar with the fake one. In fact, I don’t want to change it because if we change it, we need to learn that again.

Today, i had my first test on humangeo, hope i can get a good point. Then the other funny thing happened at night. my parents and i wnet to a robot education organization called first. We went out at six twenty and got lost. Finally we got to that place and we were stopped by the securities. They asked my parents to show.their driving license and my parents showed them their chinese driving lincense. Then we were stopped there for about half an hour so we got to that organization half an hour late. But when I got to that place i was surprised. The robot was so huge and much more interesting than the robat i played in china. I cannot wait to join that club. And there will be a competotion this saturday. Hope i can enjoy it.

Elbert Green Hubbard

Elbert Green Hubbard, an American writer, wrote the book Called  A Message to Garcia in 1899. It tells the story of a soldier who sent a message to the leader of an army called Garcia  who hided in the mountains of Cuba During Spanish-American War War. Once the writer was talking about the Spanish-American War, everyone thought Garcia was the true hero , but his son didn't. He said the soldier called Roben who sent the letter was the true hero. When Elbert heard that, he got the idea of the book. Now we usually say " how can I find a people to send a message to Garcia" to tell there is nobody can finish a difficult mission. I didn't read the book but I can image how hard it is. You have to go through the mountain, river, avoid wild animals and overcome many unknow problems.The soldier is the true hero of the war. I hope a can be a guy who can send a message to Garcia in the future.

Saturday

  Nothing to do on Saturday. I went to check some cars with my parents. Then had lunch with two of my mum's friends. I went to the back to school dance at night and found it interesting. I liked it

My first day at school

 

Hi, I am Jason Yan from China. Yesterday was my first day at the John Carroll school. I was nervous and excited before I came to school. I was afraid of the barrier of communication because I am not so good at English. But I found everyone in John Carroll was nice. Everyone I talked to was patient and friendly. They knew I am an International student and willing to help me with my problems.

  The other thing I like very much is lunch. In China, we don’t always have many choices about our lunch and the food school prepares for us usually tastes bad. I like the food here. I have a lot of choices and most of them taste good. I just arrived here a month ago and I like America.

  To my surprise, I found about 15 students who comes from China including me. This makes me feel happy. Also I met 8 other international students from all over the world in the international orientation !
