this was pften ay odds with traditional teaching which centered around the Greek gods, which got young people thinking and questioning

corruption of Athens' youth.
impietycnot believing in the gods of the state.
He defense:

I should actually be rewarded with free dinners for life.
a jury of 500 male citizens found him guilty
Sentenced the opportunity to escape, but he refused.proving his loyalty to Athenan democracy was someone who was characterized by self-centeredness and concerned almost exclussively with private- as oppoerd to public affairs
In Athenian democracy, idiots were born and citizens were made trough education
Declining to take part in public life such as demcratic government of the polis, was considered dishonorable.
