population pyramids
we use population pyramids to analyze growth ( or decline) of fertility mortality, and migration in cities
male is always on the left side and female is always on the right side
the kiddos under20
economically active 20-64
the oldies above 65
there are three basic types
the xmax tree:developing nation, growth rate is slow, high birth rate, short life expectance
the box:developed country, slow growth ,low infant mortality, slow population growth, long life expectancy
the cup: developed country, negative growth, low birth rate shrinking population, long life expectancy

Total Fertility Rate(TFR)
TFR: average number of children born per woman
for a population to remain the same, the TFR must be 2.1
higher than 2.1: population rises
lower than 2.1: population falls
World TFR : 2.42 (it was 2.54 two years ago, 2.47 last year)
US TFR : 2.01 ( it was 2.06 last year)
nigeria TFR : 6.89 (developing nation)
Japan TFR: 1.40 (developed nation, aging population)
OK, the first quarter is going to be finished this wednesday and I hope I can get a second honor at least. And I will do better and try to reach First honor in the second quarter. The other thing I heard is that Mr. schick's humangeo is the most difficult one and Mr.Fendryk's western civilization is the most difficult one and I meet both two. How lucky i am! we have a saying in China is difficult things make strong man. Hope I can enjoy the lessons in JC

homework
OK,here is something I found about China.
1.After World War II, the Communist Party of China under MAO Zedong established an autocratic socialist system that, while ensuring China's sovereignty, imposed strict controls over everyday life and cost the lives of tens of millions of people.
I don't know where does this number"ten of millions of people" from, but the thing i learned in China was much less than that, and the population was not increasing at that time.
2.total: 22,457 km

2.total: 22,457 km
border countries (14): Afghanistan 91 km, Bhutan 477 km, Burma 2,129 km, India 2,659 km, Kazakhstan 1,765 km, North Korea 1,352 km, Kyrgyzstan 1,063 km, Laos 475 km, Mongolia 4,630 km, Nepal 1,389 km, Pakistan 438 km, Russia (northeast) 4,133 km, Russia (northwest) 46 km, Tajikistan 477 km, Vietnam 1,297 km
regional border(s) (2): Hong Kong 33 km, Macau 3 km
the other thing is that we believe Hong Kong and Macau are all part of China, just like other provinces such as Jiangsu. But I don't know why there are some special team called "Hong Kong" and "Macau". the area of Hong Kong and Macau are also included in the area of China.
3.PITCAIRN ISLANDS only have 50 people?
ok other funny things i found is pitcairn island only has 50 people. and their nation is near Australia but not border on Australia. if the people there are ill or want to do some shopping. Do they have to ship to Australia, and what will be the RNI
of that nation?
4.india has 1281935911 people and it only has one third area to china?
everybody in china think china is a crowded country because we have the biggest population in china, and the population of india is becoming closer to China, and the area is not that big. If the number keeps increasing, what will happen to the country? like some one said if there are 15 billion people in the world everyonr will died. than if the population of india is increasing fast, will something happen to it?
5.vatican city has an area of less than 1 square meters?
ok, China has the fifth biggest area in the world and there is a square called tian'an men square in beijing, the capital of china. Vatican city is even less than one fourth of tian'an men square! how can this possible?

more mearsurement of population
Net Migration Rate: the difference between the number of people entering and leaving a country during a year.
an excess of people entering the country is immigration.
written as positive number
EX: Canada has 5.65 migrants per 1000 population.
United states: 2.45(it was 3.62 in 2015)
an excess of persons leaving the country is net emigration.
written as a negative number.
example: Mexico has -1.68 migrants per 1000 population
- 3.61 two years ago, -3.11 last year
why do people migrate
push forces
civil war
environmental degradation
unemployment or underemployment
religious or ethnic persecution
pull force
better economic opportunity
better health services
religious freedom
political freedom

life expectancy
the average number of years to be lived by a group of people born in the same year
High: Monaco 89.52 total 85.63men 93.58women
#42 U.S. 79.68 total 77.32men 81.97women
low Chad 49.81 total 48.64men 51.03women
measuring population
Crude birth rate: Number of births per 1000 of the population
Crude death rate: Number of death per 1000 of the population
Rate of natural increase(RNI)
Produced by subtracting the death rate from the birth rate
This gives us the annual natural growth rate in percentage form for a country or region

something about the test
we
took a test last friday and I just got a 22 out of 30. That is not so good and
the whole thing was a mess.
OK, as an international
student, something in class may be hard for me to understand, In fact I am not
good at memorizing and I am good at thinking. That's why I don't like subjects
like English, intro to Bible and I like math and physics.
And I got three special experiences
today is that I need to review all the things I learned before instead of only today’s.
Then I want to ask for the permission to use a little electronic dictionary in
class. If I can understand everything in class, that will be much better for
me. And the other thing I want to ask is can I ask for the ppt after class or
maybe before the examination. That may help me to review and check if I lost anything
in class. Thank you sir!

Geographers identify three types of regions
1 Formal Region (aka uniform region or homogeneous region)
An area in which everyone shares in common one or more distinctive characteristic
ex: Common language, economic activities or climate
Characteristic may be predominant rather than universal
2 Functional Region (aka nodal region)
an area or organized around a node for focal point
3 vernacular Region (aka perceptual region)
An area that people believe exists as part of their cultural identity
Location can be identified in three ways:
1 Place names
2 Site
3 situation
Region : A Unique Area
An area on earth defined by one or more distinctive Characteristics is a region
Most often applied at two scales
1 spanning political states.
2 Constrained within one political state
A region derives its unified character through the cultural landscape a combination of cultural, religious and physical features
Culture is the agent, the natural area the medium, the cultural landscape is the result---Lart O Sauer, American Geography

review
Sorry sir, I was sick last night and was not able to submit the homework on time.
Today we talked a little about culture:
culture is the body of customary beliefs, material traits and social forms that together constitute the distinct tradition of a group of people
origin of word, culture is the latin cultus which means "to care for"
Two meanings
to care about
to care for
Geographers study both definitions of culture
geographers study why the customary ideas, beliefs, and values of a people produce a distinctive culture in poirticular place
Especially important cultural values derive from a group's language religion and ethnicity
the second element of culture is production of material wealth, such as food clothing and shelter taht humans need inorder to survive and thrive
Scale is the relationship between the portion of the Earth being studied and earth as a whole
Globalization is a force for process that involves the entire world and results in making something worldwide in scope
I just type all these things again and just for review, not copying.

Location can be identified in three ways:
1 Place names

Today the result of the exam came out and I got 92. It's good but I think I can do better if i I can work harder. And the teacher said he really liked the Chinese saying and I just translated it in a simple way, the really saying is more beautiful than I said. The really Chinese words is like this:众人皆醉我独醒
That's not the language we are using now. It's some kinds of language we used in ancient times. But we can still understand that. It was from a great great book called "Fisherman" by Qu Yuan. It tells a story. The government wasn't accounted of him at that time and he was sent to exile. Then he met a fisherman. The Fisherman said " you were one of the leaders of the country, why are you here now?"
Then Qu Yuan said that sentence: "The whole world is dirty but I am clean, Everyone is drunk expect me." Then the fisherman said "if the government is dirty, all the people are drunk, why didn't you join them? That's the only way to make yourself fit to this world." Qu Yuan answered:" No, I heard that you should clean your hat after you wash you hair, you should clean your clothes after you wash your body. That just said you should keep yourself clean, even if the whole world is dirty. I will never make my body dirty even if I am eaten by the fish in a clean river( another Chinese Saying, means I won't do one thing ever ). How can you agree with such a mess?" And at last, Qu Yuan jumped into a river to take his own life because his country was taken by others and he didn't want to work with others. Such a man

Global Positioning system
System that accurately determines the position of something on Earth
Including three elements
1 Satellites placed in predetermined orbits
2 Tracking stations to monitor and control satellites
3 Receiver that locate at least four satellites, figure out its distance from each. and use the information to calculate its precise location.
Why is each point on Earth Unique
A place is a specific point on Earth distinguished by a particular characteristic
Describing the features of a place is an essential similarities, differences and change across Earth
Geographers describe a feature's place on Earth by identifying its location
The position that something occupies one earth's surface
And another thing about GPS is are we really willing to share these information?
The government can track us easily but if some bad people hack in the system will they find our information easily too?
And I think it is some kinds of private information and may not be willing to share if with others.
Before you update something, they always tell you to agree something or they won't update.
A very important thing is to read the message before you agree!
